What is Halal Food? Why Should Even Non-Muslims Have It?

If you are a Non-Muslim then maybe you are unaware of the term “Halal”. Halal is an Arabic word which means Permissible. The food that is permitted by Islamic law is considered halal. Basically, there is an appropriate way of slaughtering an animal as per “Quran” and the meat which is prepared using this particular method is considered dhabihah halal and otherwise, it is considered by Muslims as haram (prohibited).

The ideal behind halal food is that the animal is sacrificed in the name of God and the slaughter has to follow all the rules explained in Quran (which we are also going to discuss later on) to prepare meat. The animal has to be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter. Such animals are fed on vegetarian food and are always kept away from growth hormones, antibiotics, and preservatives. Hygiene should be taken care of while preparing halal food. Science considers this method of slaughtering animals as the most painless method for animals.

Some Rules the Slaughter Need to Follow:

  1. Slaughter needs to be a sane adult Muslim.
  2. He takes the name of God before cutting the animal.
  3. The spinal cord of the animals must not be cut.
  4. The animal should be treated before being cut.
  5. No other animal should see the animal being killed.
  6. The animal must be allowed to completely bleed out before proceeding further.

The halal way of preparing meat is completely different from other methods. In halal the jugular vein of animal is cut to drain out its whole blood. This method will take away all the harmful substances from the animal’s body and prevent the meat from getting contaminated. Blood comprises uric acid and lactic acid which can be harmful to the human body. Blood also make the meat prone to bacteria. It can promote germs and impurities in the food which will only make the human ill. Bloodless meat is definitely healthy for both the human mind and body. Halal is free from alcohol, urine and other contaminations as well which make it healthy as well as tasty.

Some say that halal is only meant for Muslims, but this is so not true. Halal is just a way of preparing meat that is offered by Allah and when a God is giving you a way then it definitely has some benefits. Halal not only has religious importance but according to science, halal is the best way of preparing meat. If you are health conscious and don’t want to consume contaminated or unhygienic meat then you must switch to halal even if you are not a Muslim. Remember that halal is just a method described by the Islamic Quran, but they never said that non-Muslim cannot have it. Why not you yourself give it a try at one of the halal restaurants near you. Its taste will definitely win your heart and will give you one more reason to have halal food.
